Aid programme 2018-19 to reduce the adverse effects of the Iraq and Syrian refugee crises – QUDRA
The Organization’s largest development programme in Iraq to date was launched in 2018: in the framework of a two-year programme funded by the European Union’s MADAD Fund, the organization seeks to mitigate the adverse effects of the refugee crisis by creating jobs, strengthening host communities and by reducing refugee vulnerability. The programme, implemented in the three governorates of Iraqi Kurdistan (Duhok, Erbil and Suleymaniya), directly reached 7,800 beneficiaries.
The Qudra programme was originally launched in June 2016 – the name comes from an Arabic word meaning “strength”, “ability” or “flexibility”. The programme is implemented jointly with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the French Expertise France (EF), the Spanish International Development Agency (AECID) and the Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan. All four organizations are striving to share their experiences and resources in order to help resolve the refugee crisis devastating the whole region. Through its activities carried out in the programme, the aid organization achieved the following results in 2018 and 2019:
- capacity building of local organizations – 3 non-governmental and 3 state – for a better coordination and a more efficient refugee care,
- organization of vocational training and retraining courses for adults in order to facilitate the placement of refugees,
- development of agriculture and animal husbandry, livelihood programmes,
- development of small and medium-sized enterprises – supporting existing and start-up companies with tools, organizing start-up trainings – business plan, marketing plan preparation, asset support.
The total cost of the project is HUF 990,000,000.
